Biographical / Historical

Elbert “Big Al” Richardson Jr. was born on August 10, 1927 in Dallas, Texas to his parents Elbert Richardson Sr. and Lula Anne Templeton. After serving in World War II in the Air Force, he moved to Colorado. Richardson was the owner of several businesses in the Five Points neighborhood including a nightclub called Big Al's and A Gift Shop Maria's. He was instrumental in establishing the Annual Five Points Juneteeth Celebration. He was active member of the Graham Memorial Community Church of God in Christ for almost 30 years. He passed away on October 26, 2016 and is buried at Fort Logan Cemetery.
