Biographical / Historical
Michael B. Hancock was elected the Mayor of Denver in 2011. He was born in 1969 in Fort Hood, Texas. His family moved to Denver, Colorado when he was a baby. He graduated from Manual High School in 1987 and received a bachelor’s degree from Hastings College in Nebraska in 1991. He later earned a Masters of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver in 1995. His professional experience includes working for the Denver Housing Authority, National Civic League and the Metro Denver Urban League. He served in the Denver City Council for District 11 from 2003 to 2011 and was the President of the City Council from 2006 to 2008. He is married to musician and performer Mary Louise Lee and has three children.
