Biographical / Historical

The National Museum of African Art collects, exhibits, conserves, and studies traditional and contemporary arts of Africa. It is located at 950 Independence Avenue SW, Washington D.C. 20560. Established in 1964 by Warren Robbins, it was originally a private museum named the Museum of African Art. It became a Smithsonian museum in 1979, and was moved to the National Mall in 1987.
