Scope and Contents

Collection contains clippings on the site selection of the U.S. Air Force Academy and personal and official correspondence to and from Maj. Gen. John F. Curry (1949-1954). Includes a copy of the book entitled: Chasing Villa, the Story Behind the Story of Pershing's Expedition into Mexico by Col. Frank Tompkins; some of General Curry's correspondence is attached to the last pages of this book.

Report to United States War Department of a trip to Germany and Czechoslovakia - visits to air fields and a summary of conditions in Europe (Sept. 30, 1937).

Biographical / Historical

Major General John Francis Curry (April 22, 1886 - March 4, 1973) was the first national commander of the Civil Air Patrol, the United States Air Force Auxiliary. He was also a World War I Army pilot, major general in the United States Army Air Corps and served as Director of Aviation for both Denver and Colorado.
