Biographical / Historical

This trip was made to determine if a hillside irrigation ditch, rather than a 3 1/2 mile water tunnel through the mountains, could be built from the Gunnison River in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison to the farms in the Uncompahgre Valley. The fourteen mile trip, starting at the junction of the Cimmaron River, took these men 21 days.
