Biographical / Historical

Born in Detroit, Mich., Chamberlain received his B.S. in civil engineering from Michigan State University (1951) and his M.S. from Washington State University (1952). In 1955, Chamberlain became the first student to earn a Ph.D. at CSU, then known as Colorado Agricultural and Mechanical College. Soon after completing his doctoral program in engineering, he joined the CSU faculty and coordinated engineering research. He became president of the university in 1969
