Biographical / Historical
Judge John W. Meldrum was born in Caledonia, N.Y. in 1843 and moved west in 1868. He was Secretary of Wyo. Territory (1889-1890) and then acting governor when the state was admitted to the Union in 1890. Meldrum was also the first United States Commissioner of Yellowstone National Park (1894-1935). He owned ranches near LaPorte, Colo. and Laramie, Wyo. Meldrum died in 1935.
