Cortlandt Whitehead Letter
Scope and Contents
Handwritten, signed letter from Reverend Cortlandt Whitehead dated January 20, 1868. The content of the letter is written to an unknown clergyman assigned to Cheyenne, Wyo. inviting him to visit in Black Hawk in the following Spring or Summer. Whitehead briefly mentions Bishop [George Maxwell] Randall and other similar churches and clergymen nearby at Nevada City (Reverend J. Byrne) and Central City (Reverend A. B. Jennings).

Biographical / Historical
Cortlandt Whitehead (1842-1922) was born in New York City, N.Y. and in the 1860s and 1870s served as a clergyman at St. Mark's Chapel in Black Hawk, Colo. and also at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown, Colo. He later became a Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh, Penn.
