Scope and Contents
Collection contains a scrapbook with newspaper clippings documenting Heintzelman's interest in Arizona mining, economic and territorial development; also includes correspondence; map; public notice; circular; prints of Heintzelman's mines. Collection also available on microfilm (C MSS Mflm118).

Biographical / Historical
Heintzelman was an Arizona pioneer soldier and entrepreneur. He established and was commander at Fort Yuma (1850-1854). Later, with Charles D. Poston and others, organized Sonora Exploring and Mining Company (1856). Heintzelman was iInstrumental in securing the establishment of Arizona Territory (1863).
