General
North Side High School was founded in 1883, northwest of Denver by the ndependent township of Highland. From the school's beginning, it was part of the Denver Public Schools system. The original graduating class of 1886 was entirely female. In 1896, the town of Highland was incorporated into the city of Denver and the existing school became inadequate for the growing number of students. A new Beaux Arts style building was constructed in 1911 at 2960 North Speer Boulevard and still continues in operation.
