Biographical / Historical

Clark O. Hitt, Jr. was born near Swan, Texas June 5, 1925. He completed four years of high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army at Dallas, Texas on August 24, 1943. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado where he was assigned to the 85th Infantry Regiment, Company K. Later, Hitt served at Camp Swift (Texas) and Camp Carson (Colorado). During combat operations in Italy, Hitt was wounded in action on Hill 919 April 15, 1945. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was discharged on March 16, 1946.
