Biographical / Historical

Iva Evans (1894-1987) was the wife of Harry E. Evans (1889-1937) in Denver. She was the mother of Harry (1914-2001), Robert and Shirley. Also, she was a close friend of the Senter family, especially Laurena. After her husband died, Iva went back to work and supported herself the rest of her life at various jobs starting with a position at Neusteters Department Store. Iva’s daily diary entries tell the story of her life as a wife and mother in the 1920s and 1930s, of her grief when her husband died, of a mother worried about her sons and their struggle to find work in the Depression-era years, and her concern as her daughter’s marriage disintegrates finally ending in divorce. She talks about the Senters until a rift occurs in the late 1940s. After that, her diary entries focus on her life and that of her children and grandchildren.
