Biographical / Historical
Gordon Stelling Chappell was born on February 10, 1939 in Sacramento, Calif. He was the senior historian with the National Parks Service. Chappell completed his BA-History, University of California, Berkeley (1961), and MA-History, University of Arizona (1965). He joined the National Park Service in 1960, position as regional historian at the Service's Western Region, headquartered in San Francisco (1974). Retired 2012.
