Biographical / Historical
Joseph Conklin LaNier II was an African American born on March 25, 1926 in Columbus, Miss. He lived through the Great Depression and served in the Navy during WWII. LaNier fought on Iwo Jima at Mount Suribachi. After the war, he attended Xavier University School of Pharmacy, New Orleans, La. and later worked as a pharmacist. Died on July 24, 2013 is buried in Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
