Biographical / Historical

David M. Fowler was born in Batttle Creek, Iowa on September 19, 1898. Enlisted in the U.S. Army on October, 1917. Fowler served in France during World War I with the 7th Infantry Division. Following the war, he was accepted at West Point and commissioned an officer in 1922. Fowler assumed command of the 87th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale on June 9, 1944. He commanded the regiment in Italy, where he was wounded in action and recieved a Bronze Star Medal at Mt. Belvedere in February 1945. He also recieved a Silver Star Medal for his actions at S. Benedetto on April 23, 1945. Fowler died on October 14, 1981.
