Biographical / Historical

Uptown on the Hill is the area bounded by Broadway, York and Colfax and 23rd Avenues. Historically, a premier residential neighborhood with 45% of the homes built before 1893 and an equal amount built betwwen 1894 and 1910. Structures represent Denver's boom period from 1880 to 1893. Silver Crash of 1892 and depression halted growth. Boom-cycle land speculation during the 1960s and 1970s resulted in the demolition of many structures and the loss of half the area's residents. Residents, property owners and business people united to rebuild and promote the area. Today, the retail and restaurant trades and residential and business development is booming once again.
