Biographical / Historical
Thomas Beale Stearns (b.1859 d. 1946) came to Denver in the spring of 1883. He graduated from Colombia School of Mining and Engineering. In Denver, he opened the Stearns Rogers Manufacturing Company. He was also connected to the Kitty Clyde Mine and Spreckles Sugar Factory in Delta, Utah. He was a Federal Food Administrator during the First World War. He later married Lillian Burt. One of their grandchildren was Carolyn Burt Stearns Ashbaugh. She was the second of five children from the marriage of Burt Stearns and Dorothy Brown, married in 1913. After Burt's death from influenza and Lillian's death from peritonitis, the grieving father and daughter-in-law Dorothy and T.B. Stearns developed a love that would lead to marriage in 1926.
