Biographical / Historical
David L. Sills (1920-) was born in New York. He had completed four years of college before enlisting in the Army on September 16, 1942 at Hartford, Connecticut. Sills joined the newly formed 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment (later to become part of the 10th Mountain Division) at Fort Lewis, Washington. He served with Company F and with the Headquarters Company of the 3rd Battalion. Sills participated in the invasion of Kiska, and his memoir deals with his experiences on the island. Sills retired as a sociologist and has climbed numerous famous mountain peaks.
