Biographical / Historical

Gene Richard Wolford wa born on February 7, 1924 in Franklin, Ohio on 1924. He was single, had complete four years of high and working as a bicycle mechanic when he enlised in the U.S. Army at Columbus, Ohio on January 5, 1943. Wolford attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and served as the chief artillery mechanic with the 710th Mountain Maintenance Ordinance Company of the 10th Mountain Division. He was wounded in action while repairing a damaged howitzer cannon taking enemy mortar fire at Mt. Belevedere on February 20, 1945. Wolford was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for bravery. He retrospectively received a Purple Heart Medal in 2005. Wolford died on April 17, 2015 in Pickerington, Ohio.
