Biographical / Historical

Antoinette Perry was born in Denver, Colorado. Made her theatrical debut in 1905. Married Frank Frueauff in 1909 and left theater. Return in 1922. Made her directorial debut in 1928. Directed 17 Broadway plays. Helped found the American Theatre Wing (ATW). Died in 1946. In 1947 the ATW established the Antoinette Perry Awards, known as the Tony Awards, for distinguished theatrical accomplishments on the New York stage.
