Biographical / Historical

Dennis R. Huntley was born in Washington State in 1925. He had completed four years of high school when he enlisted in the Army at Tacoma, Wash. on January 18, 1943. He joined the 10th Mountain Division while it was engaged in mountain and winter warfare training at Camp Hale, Colo. At various times he was assigned to the 86th Infantry Regiment, 87th Infantry Regiment, Mountain Training Group and 10th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop. During combat operations in Italy, Huntley was twice wounded and awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star Medals for heroism.

Rudy Konieczny was one of three soldiers profiled in the book: "The Boys of Winter" (2005) by Charles J. Sanders. He was killed in the spring of 1945 in Italy.
