Scope and Contents

The scrapbook contains photographs of events held in Brush, Greeley and Colorado Springs, Colorado (1938-1946); newspaper articles about races held at Lakeside Speedway, Lakeside, Colorado, Pikes Peak Speedway, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Speedway Park, Ft. Collins, Colorado (1947); and Lakeside Speedway racing programs (1947). Some of the individuals in the photographs have been identified: Danny Woods, Burton Spickler, Miles Spickler, Leon Hawks, Bert McNeese, Connie Tolan and Pete Headrick.

Biographical / Historical

Vera Hawks was the wife of midget car driver, mechanic, and car builder Leon Hawks (1908-1975). She documented her husband's involvement with the sport during the 1930s and 1940s.
