Scope and Contents

The photograph album is an 1875 illustrated visitor's guide containing an assortment of photographs of businesses, including some address locations, for the cities of Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Canon City, Pueblo, Manitou Springs, Central City and Georgetown, Colorado. Additional images document scenery, events, residences and people. The album is one volume containing 217 albumen photographic prints.

Biographical / Historical

The firm of Duhem Brothers, photographers, operated between 1869-1879 at 448 Larimer Street, Denver, Colorado. The studio was established by Constant Louis Duhem (b. April 13, 1840; Paris-d. Apr. 26, 1933 Oroville, Butte County, California) and his brother, Victor M. Duhem (b. August 15, 1843, Bar-le-Duc, France-August 5, 1931 San Francisco, California). The brothers emigrated with their family from France arriving in California in 1852 and later served with the Union Army during the Civil War as enlistees in the California Volunteer Infantry. After closing their Denver studio in 1879, the brothers returned to Northern California where they continued to work as photographers.
