Biographical / Historical
Richard C. "Dick" Powers joined the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Lewis, Washington and was assigned to Company K of the 87th Infantry Regiment, but later served with Companies B, C, D and Headquarters of the First Battalion. He was also stationed at Camp Hale, Colorado; Fort Ord, California; Kiska, Alaska; Camp Carson, Colorado; and Camp Swift, Texas before being sent to Italy. Powers received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in the Apennine Mountains and Po Valley during April 14-30, 1945. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant and retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel.
