Biographical / Historical

Charles W. Wheeler was born on September 18, 1922 in Albany, New York and enlisted in the Army at there on November 23, 1942. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, had completed one year of college, and was working as a buyer for a department store. Wheeler joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado where he was assigned to Company I of the 87th Infantry Regiment, but also served with Headquarters of the 3rd Battalion of the 87th Infantry Regiment. He was also assigned to Fort Ord, California; Kiska, Alaska; Camp Carson, Colorado; and Camp Swift, Texas. Wheeler died in Loudonville, New York on April 19, 2003.
