Scope and Contents
Collection contains an album with photographs of the North Star mine and boarding house once located in the town of Yankee Hill, Gilpin County, Colo. (1908-1922); additional photographs document the Rocky Mountain News jeep caravan from Idaho Springs, Colo. over Yankee Hill to Central City (August 28, 1954), included are images of the North Star Mine and boarding house (1954); clippings on Edward C. Thiede and the Thiede family of Golden, Colo. (1954-1963), correspondence, ephemera.

Biographical / Historical
Edward Charles Thiede was born in Colo. on September 16, 1877, the son of Henry and Anna Thiede. He married Julia Jane Bourgeouis (1885-1930) on Feburary 8, 1905 in Golden, Colo. The couple had four children: George Edward (1905-1990), Maude L. (1907-1985), Edith J. (1916-1917), and Ruby M. (1920-1980) Thiede. Edward Theide worked as a hard rock miner at the North Star Mine, Yankee Hill, Gilpin County, Colo. during the first part of the 20th century. He later participated on a commemorative trip on the old stagecoach road over Yankee Hill sponsored by the Rocky Mountain News in 1954. Edward Theide died in 1958 and is buried in Bald Mountain Cemetery near the town of Nevadaville, Gilpin County, Colo.
