National Western Stock Show Records
Scope and Contents
The collection dates from 1930-2022 and includes an index of bulletins (1957-1969, 1971-1981); memorabilia (2000); Citizen of the West program and invitations; judging contest lists; and scrapbooks containing primarily newspaper clippings. Selected scrapbooks are available on microfilm. Also included in the collection are Coors Western Art Exhibit programs, guides, premium list (2009-2012), as well as building survey reports, maps, photographs, and plans for the site of the National Western Center. Additional materials in the collection include memos, correspondence, calendars, proposals, postcards, and catalogs.

Biographical / Historical
Late in 1905, an initial meeting was held of interested livestock commissioners, stockyard company executives, packers and cattlemen in Denver, Colo. The first show named the Western Livestock Show opened Monday, January 29, 1906 and ran for 6 days. The following year, 1907, its name changed to the Western National Stock Show. In 1981, the event increased to 12 days. The show continues to be held annually during the month of January in Denver, Colo. for 12 days.
