Biographical / Historical

Clarence L. “Sonny” Hank was born March 5, 1921 in Whitefield Township, Marshall County, Illinois, the son of Henry J. and Christina (Schlosser) Hank. He completed a year of high school and was working in an industrial chemicals production plant prior to enlisting in the Army July 28, 1942 at Peoria, Illinois. He was single and living in Marshall County, Illinois. During World War II, Hank served with the 126th Mountain Engineer Battalion, part of the 10th Mountain Division. He was assigned to the Headquarters Company and later to the Battalion Medical Detachment. Hank served at Camp Hale, Colorado; Camp Swift, Texas and during the Italian Campaign. Following the war, Hank worked as a carpenter for 27 years, retiring in 1983. Clarence Hank passed away January 14, 1997.
