The interview provides information and personal observations about Sam T. Thomas' experiences as told by his wife, Ann K. Thomas: time in the Army, sadness at the death of his replacement in Italy; issues related to the couple's marriage not being recognized by the US Government; an incarceration camp in Ark. destroyed by a tornado, later became a German POW camp.

Biographical / Historical

Samuel T. "Sam" Thomas born in Magnolia, Ark. on January 11, 1926. A graduate of Magnolia High School, he was accepted in the Army's Specialized Training Program at Texas Tech University, and received his basic training at Camp Robinson, Ark. When the ASTP was terminated, Thomas was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Swift, Tex., where he was assigned to Company I of the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment. He attained the rank of Private First Class and received the Combat Infantryman Badge for his combat service in Italy. Thomas died in Magnolia, Ark. on March 11, 2011.
