Biographical / Historical

Donald L. Kitzman was born April 15, 1922. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale where he was assigned to Company F of the 87th Infantry Regiment. He moved with the Regiment to Fort Ord, California where he trained for the invasion of Kiska Island. Following occupation duty at Kiska, Kitzman served at briefly at Camp Carson, Colorado before returning to Camp Hale. He was also stationed at Camp Swift, Texas and in Italy. While engaged in combat operations against German forces occupying Italy, Kitzman was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions near Mt. Serra on April 17, 1945. Kitzman currently (2012) resides in Mesa, Arizona, where he serves as President of the Arizona Chapter of the National Association.
