Biographical / Historical

Dale Dom was born June 13, 1919 in Sacramento, California, the son of William and Sylvia Dom. He attempted to join the Army Air Corps, but was disqualified due to Asthma. He volunteered for the “ski troops” and enlisted August 31, 1942. He received basic training at Camp Roberts, California and was assigned to the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment at Camp Hale, where he served in Company L. Dom was sent on special assignment to Camp Gogebic, Michigan, where he assisted in training members of the 82nd Division in winter survival. Dom participated in the invasion of Kiska Island in the Aleutians August 15, 1943. Following the Kiska operation, he was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia for officer training. Dom spent forty-two years in construction, primarily installing exterior skins on high rise buildings in San Francisco. He quit skiing at age 75.
