Biographical / Historical

Orville T. Tomky was born in Morgan County, Colo. on February 17, 1924, and enlisted in the Army at Denver, Colo. on June 5, 1943. At the time of his enlistment, he was unmarried, had completed four years of high school, and working as a farmhand. Tomky joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo., where he was assigned to Company B of the 16th Mountain Engineering Battalion. He also served at Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. He attained the rank of Technician Grade 5.
