Biographical / Historical

Elwood G. Sims was born on February 11, 1919 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho and enlisted in the Army on June 23, 1944 at Fort Lewis, Wash. At the time of his enlistment he was married with two children, had completed four years of high school and working as a cashier. Sims served his basic training at Fort Robinson, Ark. and joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Swift, Tex. as a member of Company K of the 87th Infantry Regiment. During combat operations in Italy he received a Bronze Star medal for his actions at Tole on April 16, 1945. Sims died in Spokane, Wash. on February 8, 2012.
