Scope and Contents

The interview provides information and personal observations about Colville's working on deferment status at a California aircraft factory before enlisting in the 10th Mountain Division (1943), training at Fort Ord, participation in the invasion of Kiska Island, return to Camp Hale, weather at Camp Swift, being deployed and in Italy aboard the USS West Point, discussion with Colonel David Fowler (87th Regimental Commander).

Biographical / Historical

Robert C. Colville was born on January 31, 1923 in Floydada, Tex. and enlisted in the Army on December 17, 1942. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried and had completed high school. Colville joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Company A of the 87th Infantry Regiment. He was also stationed at Fort Ord, Calif., Kiska, Alaska, Camp Carson, Colo., and Camp Swift, Tex. before being deployed to Italy. Colville was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions at Mongiorgio on April 19, 1945.
