Scope and Contents

The interview provides information and personal observations about Josephson's experiences: being a skier and having Minnie Dole tell him about the formation of the National Ski Patrol; serving on air bases in Fla., Mass., and R.I. before joining the 10th Mountain Division; travel to Camp Hale and Fort Ord for the preparation of the invasion of Kiska Island; condition and activities at Kiska, friendly fire, casualties; returning to Camp Hale and participating in the "D" series; searchlight maneuvers and crossing the Po River.

Biographical / Historical

Raymond C. Johnson was born on September 14, 1918 in Farmington, Conn. and enlisted in the Army on July 31, 1942 at Hartford, Conn. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried, had completed four years of college, and working as a semiskilled machine shop operator. Josephson joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo., where he was assigned to Headquarters Company of the 3rd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, later with Company H. He also served at Fort Ord, Calif., Kiska Island, Camp Carson, Colo., and Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. Josephson attained the rank of Sergeant. He died in Farmington, Conn. on September 25, 2010.
