Biographical / Historical

Okey C. Dean was born in Okla. in 1920 and enlisted in the Army on February 25, 1942. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried, had completed grammar school and working as a farm hand. Okey joined the 10th Mountain Division and was assigned to Company A of the 87th Infantry Regiment. He also served at Ft. Lewis, Wash.; Camp Hale, Colo.; Camp Swift, Tex.; and Camp Carson, Colo. He participated in combat operations at Kiska Island and in Italy. Dean received a Bronze Star Medal for his actions at Torre Iussi and was later killed in action near Le Coste, Italy on April 14, 1945.
