Biographical / Historical

Calvin F. Paynter was born February 27, 1921 in Pa. He attended three years of high school prior to enlisting in the Army on September 22, 1942 at Philadelphia, Pa. Paynter joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo., where he was assigned to the 86th Infantry Regiment, Company A. He later served with the 86th Service Company and Company F of the 86th. Paynter participated in training at Camp Swift, Tex. and served in combat in Italy. During the Italian Campaign, he was wounded in action March 3, 1945 near Mount Terminale. Paynter received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions near Calcara, Italy on April 20, 1945. He later served as President of the South East Chapter of the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division.
