Biographical / Historical

John H. Caster was born in Ill. in 1923. He enlisted in the Army on March 3, 1943 at Fort Sheridan, Ill. and joined the 10th Mountain Division. He served with the 86th Infantry Regiment assigned at various times to Companies A, F, G and the Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion. Caster trained with the Division at Camp Hale, Colo., Camp Swift Tex. and in Italy. Following the war, Caster returned to Camp Carson, Colo. During the Italian Campaign, Caster received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions during the Appenines and Po River Campaigns in Spring 1945.
