Biographical / Historical
Paul C. Kitchen, Jr. was born on April 10, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pa. and enlisted in the Army in February 1943 at New Cumberland, Pa. At the time of his enlistment, he was unmarried and had graduated from the Episcopal Academy and was attending the University of Pennsylvania. Kitchen volunteered for the 10th Mountain Division and received his basic training at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Companies B and E of the 86th Infantry Regiment. He also served with Company C of the 90th Infantry Regiment, before joining Company I of the 86th Infantry Regiment. Kitchen received the Bronze Star medal for his actions in the Po Valley and Apennine Mountains in the Spring of 1945. He attained the rank of Sergeant. Kitchen also served as President of the Delaware River Chapter of the National Association of the 10th Moutain Division (1992-1995).
