Biographical / Historical

Melvin R. Mailloux was born in Mass. on March 15, 1925 and enlisted in the Army on June 22, 1943 in Boston. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried, and had completed high school. Mailloux joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Headquarters Company of the 86th Infantry Regiment. He transferred with his unit to Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. Mailloux was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in the Apennine Mountains and Po River Valley campaigns in Spring 1945 and attained the rank of Sergeant. He died in Durham, N.C. on November 5, 2007.
