Scope and Contents
Collection contains 5 diaries (1880-1884) documenting Wright's daily activities: mining activities, chores, expenses. DVD (2006) with original film footage from the early 1930s. The films documents the activities at Wright Ranch and includes audio commentary by the cameraman and former camper at the Wright's Ranch.

Biographical / Historical
Alonzo S. “Lon” Wright was born April 19, 1849 in Morgan County, Mo. He married Mary L. Vezina (b. November 3, 1868-d. 1905) on February 17, 1892 in Iowa. They had six children: Alonzo Jr. “Lonnie,” John Riley, Myron "Pat", Mary, Thomas Clanton, and Will. Lon Wright arrived in Denver April 17, 1872. He spent 18 years prospecting and mining, especially near Lake City, (Hinsdale County) Colo. where he claimed the “Sweet Home Lode.” Wright came to the Uncompahgre Valley in 1884 and eventually settled on Ash Mesa, near Olathe, (Montrose County) Colo. He died January 16, 1938 in Montrose County at the age of 88. Wright also operated Wright's Ranch near Cedaredge (Delta County), Colo. The ranch was a summer camp for boys that focused on teaching riding, roping, rodeo skills, and everyday ranch operations. Wright later owned a ranch near Olathe, Colo.
