Collection contains 2 genealogical forms filled out by Edgar Rees Huffsmith in 1948 on the Huffsmith-Shinn families for the Descendants of Colorado Pioneers project sponsored by the Colorado Genealogical Society; forms contain biographical and family information; reminiscences of a visit in 1868 by an ailing Kit Carson to Major Daniel Chessman Oakes of Denver.

Biographical / Historical

Edgar Rees Huffsmith was a member of a Colorado pioneer family. He was born on August 19, 1890 in Greeley, Weld County, Colordao, the son of Peter Hufsmith (1848; Monroe County, Pennsylvania-1926; Greeley, Colorado) and Lois Eliza Shinn (1854; Manhattan, Kansas-1945; Greeley, Colorado). Peter Hufsmith arrived in Colorado in 1863 with his family, while Lois Shinn arrived in May 1864 with her family. Edgar Rees Huffsmith never married. He died on October 19, 1972 and is buried in Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley, Weld County, Colorado.
