Biographical / Historical
The National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni (NACCCA) was formed in 1978. Colorado's Mile High Chapter 7 was established in 1978 in time for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCC in 1983. Meetings of the chapter were held at Mt. Morrison CCC Camp SP-13-C until the mid-2000s. One of the organization?s primary efforts in recent decades was to establish and maintain a CCC museum at the Mt. Morrison CCC Camp. The museum, adjacent to the Denver Mountain Parks office on the same site, is managed by Denver Mountain Parks staff. As of 2009, the NACCCA Mile High Chapter 7 was disbanded due to the declining health and death of its last remaining members. A follow-on organization, also called Mile High Chapter 7, continues their work.

General
Out of the economic chaos caused by the Great Depression emerged the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Inaugurated by President Franklyn D. Roosevelt in 1933, the CCC was part of the U.S. public work relief program known as the New Deal. The goal of the CCC were two-fold: conservation of natural resources and employment for young, unemployed and unmarried men ages 17-23. Projects in Colo. included the cutting and grading of some of the first mountain roads and transforming Red Rocks Amphitheater into a premiere concert venue. The CCC continued until 1941 and the advent of World War II. The efforts of the CCC are recognized as the single greatest conservation program in America and served as a catalyst to develop the tenets of modern conservation.
