First Baptist Church of Denver Records
Scope and Contents
Collection contains records of the church's establishment, growth and continued presence in Denver (1864-1996). The materials include membership records and card index grouped by members, non-members, retired, moved away, out-of-state members, and those who have died, also included are some Rolodex cards. Correspondence files coordinate with the index cards as to the dismission or transfer of a member to another church, and whether the member has moved, retired, left, or other reasons. Scrapbooks document the history of the church with information on sermons given, programs, clippings, Sunday school programs.

Biographical / Historical
The First Baptist Church of Denver (FBCD) was founded in 1864. The church was once located at 18th and Curtis Streets, later at 17th and Stout Streets before moving to its current location in 1938 across from the Colorado State Capital Building at the corner of Grant and 14th Avenue, Denver, Colo. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached at the church on April 16, 1962. The current church building, designed by Denver based architect, George Meredith Musick, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
