Collection contains a typed transcript of autobiography describes Kroenig's trip west from Independence, Mo. to Santa Fe, N.M.; time as a soldier fighting Indians and trading expeditions in northern N.M. and southern Colo.; Account begins with journey from Independence, Mo. to Santa Fe, N.M. (1849). Enlisted in a company of soldiers fighting Indian depredations. Went into merchandising (1850) in Rio Colorado, N.M. and made trading expeditions in northern N.M. and southern Colo. Collection also available on microfilm (Mflm 54). Microfilm contains sale contracts between Kroenig and assistant quartermaster at Fort Union, N.M.

Biographical / Historical

William Kroenig (1828-1900) was a New Mexico pioneer, worked as a merchant, miner, and farmer. Settled near Watrous, Mora County (N.M.).
