Biographical / Historical

Dr. Sandra Fingold Arkin was born in Tacoma, Washington and received her B.A. from the University of Washington in Seattle. She moved to Denver in June, 1961 and earned two additional degrees from the University of Denver: a Master’s in Elementary Education and a Ph.D. in Gifted Education. She taught 5th grade at Holly Hills Elementary School in the Cherry Creek School District in the 1960s.

A resident of Greenwood Village, Dr. Arkin served on the City’s Board of Adjustment and Appeals from 1985 to 1995 and as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission from 1999-2006. Dr. Arkin served as president of several boards of directors including: Friends of the Arthritis Foundation, Food Bank of the Rockies Guild, Colorado Uplift Guild, and Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Foundation Guild. She was co-founder of AWARE, the Alzheimer’s Association Guild. In 2010, Dr. Arkin became the state of Colorado’s first AARP YouTube spokesperson.

An active member of the Republican Party, Dr. Arkin attended the Inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in Washington D.C. on January 20, 1981.
