Biographical / Historical

JoAnn Kyral graduated from South High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1969. She earned her BA and a teaching certificate from the University of Nebraska, Omaha in 1973, majoring in French. While a junior in high school, Kyral began working for the National Park Service and continued part time throughout her college years. After college she worked in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Buffalo National River and then advanced to the superintendent position at Fort Smith National Historic Site, Scotts Bluff National Monument and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. She initiated several friends groups for the parks and became actively involved in philanthropic organizations and wide-ranging causes including Kiwanis, Rotary, Keep America Beautiful and United Cerebral Palsy.

Kyral received numerous performance and achievement awards from the National Park Service, including one for her work at the 2nd World Conference on National Parks. In 2018 Kyral resides in Loveland, Colorado and volunteers for Birthline of Loveland.
