Scope and Contents

The collection of letters recieved by the Budisavljevich family and written by their relatives in Croatia provides insight into the immgrant family experience in Las Animas County, Trinidad and the Globeville neighborhood of Denver. Correspondence spans 1906-1937.

Some letters have been translated in 2015 by a staff member at Denver Public Library.

Biographical / Historical

Bude Budisavljevich (1884-1956) was born in Bunic, Lika-Senj, Croatia. Bude lived in Las Animas County, Trinidad, Colorado, and in 1913 married Yelena Busich (1892-1965). The couple had two sons, Manuel and Pedro, who were born in Trinidad. Records indicate that the family moved to Globeville around 1918. Bude worked as a butcher throughout his life. Manuel went by the nickname “Manny Boody,” and after attending the University of Denver, became a sports writer for The Rocky Mountain News. Pedro eventually moved to Texas.
