SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection spans 1992 to 1998. The bulk of the material in the collection is official correspondence from Dean Carmichael's term as president of the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division. Correspondence documents various Association activities as well as related activities of the 10th Mountain Division Foundation and the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers. Correspondence is arranged alphabetically by subject.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Dean Gregg Carmichael was born July 22, 1925 in Spokane, Washington, the son of John D. and Mildred (Angle) Carmichael. He attended Spokane’s Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. During his youth, Carmichael was a member of the Mount Spokane Ski Patrol. He entered military service on November 15, 1943 and received his basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Following basic training, Carmichael volunteered for service with the ski troops and arrived at Camp Hale in January, 1944. He was assigned to the 110th Mountain Signal Company where he served as a supply clerk. He received his discharge on April 19, 1946. Enrolling at Washington State University, Carmichael graduated in 1950 with a BA degree. He received additional education through the Career Life Underwriters American College and retired in 1987 after 35 years in the insurance industry as an account executive with Mutual of Omaha.
Carmichael was very active with the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division. He served as president of the Northwest Chapter, chaired the 1995 Sun Valley reunion and served as Association president. Carmichael was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, bird hunting and cycling. When Carmichael attended his 50th high school reunion in Spokane, he became reacquainted with former classmate, Jean Murray. They married on their shared 70th birthday. Carmichael passed away April 26, 2011 in Spokane, Washington.
