HISTORICAL NOTE
Boettcher and Company originated on September 1, 1910 as Boettcher, Porter and Company. The Company began as a partnership with three capital partners, Claude K. Boettcher, Gerald Hughes and John H. Porter. In 1912, Hume Lewis became the fourth partner. On March 25, 1925, when John H. Porter died, Louise C. Porter and Gerald Hughes (guardian for John Henry Porter, a minor) became partners in his place. At this time, all interests in the firm were liquidated except those of Claude Boettcher and Hume Lewis. In April 1925, Boettcher and Company formed as a successor to Boettcher, Porter and Company.
On August 1, 1928, Boettcher-Newton and Company formed with the partners consisting of James Q. Newton, Charles Boettcher II, James F. Burns, Jr., Robert P. Newton and Irving Eaton. On May 1, 1929, Boettcher-Newton and Company announced consolidation of the investment banking business of Boettcher and Company with its general commission business in securities and commodities. A New York office opened on August 1, 1929. Later in August, the Boettcher-Newton and Company relocated to 828 17th Street, Denver, Colorado. On December 28, 1933, a new partnership of Boettcher, Newton and Company formed and on the same date, Boettcher and Company Incorporated formed for transaction of capital bank finance and general investment business.
The partners continued to change during the 1930s and 1940s. On February 19, 1944, Boettcher and Company announced its membership on the New York Stock Exchange. James Q. Newton died in April of 1944. In May of 1944, Boettcher and Company became a limited partnership. The company continued operating as a limited partnership until 1957 when additional partners joined. On June 9, 1957 Claude K. Boettcher died. On April 11, 1962, Boettcher Investment Company, Inc. formed. In 1963, the firm became a member of the American Stock Exchange. Since 1964, limited and general partners joined the firm and several partners resigned. The firm continues to operate in Denver, Colorado.
